The Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation (NLC) is a provincial crown corporation responsible for managing the importation, sale and distribution of beverage alcohol and cannabis within the province. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Manufacturing Operations is responsible for the strategic execution, leadership, financial measures, business development and support of all activities related to the manufacturing of NLC owned and contracted brands in Newfoundland and Labrador. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leads strategic planning and development of initiatives to ensure execution of this plan.

  • Directs, manages, and coaches/develops staff to ensure a motivated, productive workforce.

  • Plans, directs and co-ordinates manufacturing operations, new product development, and local product marketing & sales to achieve optimum productivity and effectiveness in meeting established goals and objectives.

  • Responsible for overall financial performance of the manufacturing plant and local brands including development of operational and capital expenditures and budgets and operating within those budgets.

  • Defines, measures and evaluates the financial and non-financial targets for NLC’s manufacturing operation.

  • Attracts new customers and brands.

  • Reviews and evaluates overall market direction and plans for local brands.

  • Develops and initiates solutions that facilitate continuous improvement through new designs and innovative approaches to production processes.

  • Develops, reviews and implements operational and administrative policies, processes and procedures that support key initiatives.

  • Collaborates with the Human Resources Department to promote harmonious employee relations.

  • Promotes a healthy, safe and respectful workplace culture.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A degree in business or food science.

  • A sound knowledge of and experience in manufacturing processes, quality assurance, product development, and sales & marketing.

  • Ten (10) years of experience in a progressively responsible manufacturing management position(s).

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and conflict management skills.

  • Excellent supervisory skills.

  • Ability to work with computer software applications, with emphasis on the following programs, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word.

  • Experience in long-term planning, revenue forecasting, budgeting and performance monitoring.

  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment would be an asset, but is not required

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
